Curl Curls Curls! How to know your type and embrace them

Curly hair: it's a glorious mess of waves, ringlets, and coils that deserves to be celebrated! But like a spirited toddler, it can also be a bit demanding. This blog post is your one-stop guide to understanding your curl type and unlocking the secrets to healthy, defined curls.

The Curly Hair Alphabet Soup

First things first, let's talk curl types. Curly hair is classified into three main categories, with Type 1 being straight hair (just for reference!).
This guide will break down the different types of curly hair and give you some tips on how to tame those tresses.

Type 2: Wavy Hair

  • 2a: Loose waves, mostly straight at the roots.
  • 2b: Defined S-shaped waves starting mid-length.
  • 2c: More defined waves starting higher up, with a mix of curls and ringlets.

Challenge: Weighs down by product.

Styling Tip: Use lightweight products like milk_shake leave-in conditioner or milk_shake whipped cream along with curl cream - curl perfectionist to enhance bounce and volume while reducing frizz.

Type 3: Curly Hair

  • 3a: Loose curls with a large diameter (think chalk).
  • 3b: Classic ringlets with a defined S-shape and a medium diameter (think marker).
  • 3c: Very dense, tightly coiled curls with a small diameter (think pencil).

Challenge: Frizzy due to difficulty in retaining moisture.

Styling Tip: Use a leave-in conditioner as a styling base. Try a combination of leave-in conditioner and curl perfectionist cream for frizz control and definition.

Type 4: Coily Hair

  • 4a: Very dense, springy curls with finer strands.
  • 4b: Tightly coiled curls with a Z-shaped pattern.
  • 4c: Less defined curls with a similar shape and size as 4b.

Challenge: Prone to breakage due to dryness and fragility.

Styling Tip: Deeply moisturize with Argan Deep treatment mask or Integrity Intensive treatment mask 1-2 times a week.

Use the L.O.C. method (leave-in conditioners, oils and creams) for softness, shine, and curl definition.
